The Trend—Fall Cover Ups

Winter is coming! Well actually, Fall is; but I just had to make a Game of Thrones reference. The fact of the matter is, it is getting chilly; and New Yorkers are starting to cover up. So bring on the sweaters and the jackets!
I just love when necessity gives fashion a little nudge. It is almost like the perfect cosmic timing. This fall there are an array of sweaters and jackets available that go with any occasion.

Pullover sweaters were seen on the runways of Rodarte and Derek Lam, but college students don’t need the catwalk to convince them of the pullover’s esteem. Every college student loves a good pullover. During my undergrad years, I lived and slept in my dark purple NYU sweater. They are just great dorm wear. But when it comes to stepping outside, that’s a different story. This is New York City after all, where fashion is implemented (to certain degrees) in every aspect of life.
This fall, it is all about chunky patterns, deep woven-in braids and etched squares, in warm colors such as golden yellow, creamy white or a soft-hued orange. Check these out:

Take fashion market editor Becky Malinsky’s word for it. In an interview for Glamour Magazine, she states, “I’d dress up…chunky knits with silk pants to balance the texture and weight of the heavy fabric.”
But there are also less casual, dressy knits. For those cooler nights out, try the knit dress.

These items are cozy yet sexy, letting the wearer feel comfortable while the body-hugging look brings on the flirt.

For a bit of a harder look, grab a jacket. They easily add texture to any outfit. A motorcycle jacket adds cool attitude to a colorful dress. The tweed jacket gives a plain tee and jeans a touch of class.

Dudes shouldn’t shy away from these trends either. There are many masculine variants out there.
